Seizing the Canaries could endanger Gibraltar

What if the proposed British island seizure concerned the Spanish Canary Islands?

The Canaries would offer limited help in the Atlantic campaign while creating a dispute with Spain that could put Gibraltar at risk.

The Canary Islands are considered after the original question appears to confuse them with the Azores. Their position off northwest Africa gives them less value for the Atlantic campaign than islands farther out in the ocean. Seizing Spanish territory would also create diplomatic problems and could require Britain to defend Gibraltar against the consequences.
