Why brigade-scale amphibious capability remains strategic

Small forces suit most missions, but a self-supporting brigade can reopen access when ports are denied or islands must be retaken.

Notes

A commando or reinforced battalion with its own mobility can handle most amphibious tasks, while special forces cover many smaller raids. A rarer case still demands brigade scale: securing a large beachhead against an entrenched peer when usable ports are unavailable. That requirement can arise when islands must be retaken or an ally must be reinforced after an enemy has seized or disabled its ports. A nation able to land a complete brigade with artillery, reconnaissance, logistics, and multiple battalions provides allies with an access option that survives the loss of port infrastructure.
