Baltic convoys redirect the submarine war

A British Baltic position could shorten the war by closing German trade, resupplying Russia, and drawing U-boats away from commerce warfare around Britain.

Notes

A Baltic breakthrough changes logistics on both sides of the war. Britain could close German sea trade more completely while using defended convoys to send supplies to Russia. Germany would have strong reasons to concentrate submarines against those convoys, leaving fewer U-boats around Britain and in other theaters. Germany did not have enough submarines to contest every route at the required strength simultaneously. Tighter blockade pressure and sustained Russian resupply could shorten the war substantially.
