D Torpedo Training Flight at Gosport used Darts to teach naval pilots how to approach a target for a torpedo attack. Pilots flattened out 15 feet above the water and aimed the whole aircraft at the target. These training aircraft were an exception to the Dart's usual employment at sea. Most Darts normally served aboard aircraft carriers, which gave the public few opportunities to see them.
