Why the T.2 Dart suited carrier decks

The Blackburn T.2 Dart paired gentle low-speed handling with deck-landing features that made a large single-seat aircraft workable aboard carriers.

Notes

The unusually large, single-seat Dart combined subtle, manageable handling with a wing loading of only nine pounds per square foot. Its stalling speed was 38 knots, which helped pilots land it on carrier decks. From 1928, aircraft received Handley Page slots as they came up for reconditioning. The slots made the Dart still easier to land aboard a carrier.
