Black Swan and modified Black Swan sloops are valued as ships built for hunting submarines. More of them would support dedicated groups, including the kind associated with Walker, while other escorts guarded convoys. The discussion emphasizes identifying and attacking successful U-boat commanders through intelligence. Losing those experienced crews early would reduce the expertise available for later boats. The proposed benefit therefore extends beyond the immediate number of submarines sunk.
