Ark Royal's most famous operational contribution came as part of Force H. Her Fairey Swordfish attack slowed Bismarck and left the German battleship unable to escape effectively. Destroyers harried Bismarck through the night before King George V and Rodney caught her and finished the action. Renown was kept out of the final engagement despite her partnership with Ark Royal in Force H.
