The discussion pushes back against using Bismarck as the default story of the Royal Navy in the Second World War. Narvik, North Cape, the River Plate, and several Mediterranean battles provide other major engagements. In operational terms, Bismarck's career occupied only a small part of the navy's war. Its disproportionate prominence came from the publicity and later press attention surrounding its two engagements.
