Biddle links the Continental Navy to Desert Storm

Nicholas Biddle's Arctic and Revolutionary-era career leads into a namesake cruiser that served through Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Notes

Nicholas Biddle went to sea as a teenager, joined the Royal Navy, and sailed on Constantine Phipps's Arctic expedition alongside the young Horatio Nelson. He later became one of the Continental Navy's first captains. The Biddle name then passed through a torpedo boat and a Wickes-class destroyer, while a Charles F. Adams-class ship lost the name before commissioning and the Belknap-class cruiser received it. That cruiser later served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm before being scrapped.
