Why Warspite was the strongest 1945 museum-ship choice

Newer battleships were easier to preserve, but Warspite offered a uniquely rich span of Royal Navy history.

Question

Which Royal Navy capital ship was the best preservation candidate in 1945, excluding Vanguard?

Short answer

The newer King George V ships were easier choices, but Warspite was the best historical candidate because of the story she could tell.

Notes

King George V, Anson, or Howe would be relatively new and therefore easier and cheaper candidates in 1945. Warspite is nevertheless preferred Warspite for the depth of history the ship could represent to museum visitors. The tradeoff is between preservation practicality and interpretive value. Vanguard is excluded because it was too new and not yet complete.
