Chapter ยท 7:50-9:40

Bertram Ramsay's amphibious command

Ramsay's direction of Dunkirk and Overlord illustrates attentive delegation at the highest level of amphibious warfare.

Notes

Bertram Ramsay cared deeply about the work of every small craft and destroyer under his authority. That attention did not amount to distrust: Dunkirk and Operation Overlord depended on capable subordinates whom Ramsay trusted. Destroyers lifted more troops at Dunkirk than popular histories often acknowledge. His experience and attention to the practical details of evacuation and invasion made him one of the great, often overlooked amphibious commanders.
