Chapter ยท 42:30-44:59

Bermuda moves from Torch to prisoner recovery

Bermuda serves in North Africa and Biscay before reaching the Pacific in time to recover Allied prisoners after Japan's surrender.

Notes

The cruiser supports Operation Torch and later works with Operation Stonewall against U-boats and blockade runners in the Bay of Biscay. A 1944 Glasgow refit removes X turret before Bermuda deploys to the Pacific by way of Fremantle and Sydney. Japan surrenders while she is in Sydney, redirecting the ship from combat toward recovering Allied prisoners from formerly occupied territory. A Japanese aircraft attacks on 6 September, whether through ignorance of the surrender or unwillingness to accept it. Bermuda fights off the attack and continues carrying former prisoners to Shanghai for repatriation. Japan's surrender had not ended every local danger across the dispersed Pacific.
