Bermuda's prisoner recovery still required combat readiness

A Japanese air attack on 6 September 1945 interrupted operations after Japan's surrender.

Notes

Bermuda sailed to the Philippines and helped recover Allied prisoners from formerly Japanese-occupied territory. On 6 September 1945, Japanese aircraft attacked her despite the war's end. The attackers are described as either unaware of the surrender or unwilling to accept it. Bermuda fought them off and continued transporting prisoners to Shanghai for repatriation. The surrender had not immediately ended every threat to the ships carrying out that work.
