Warrior's royal duties included escorting the royal yacht to Dublin, while fears of a Fenian approach by boat supplied another reason to guard Queen Victoria at Osborne Bay. A later collision with HMS Royal Oak cost Warrior her figurehead and jib boom, but Captain Boyes was acquitted at his court martial. With HMS Black Prince and the paddle frigate HMS Terrible, Warrior then towed a floating dry dock from Madeira to Bermuda. The dock let the Royal Navy maintain ironclads and other large ships far from Britain. A floating facility also invited fewer American objections than a permanent installation.
