HMS Belliqueux fought at Fort Royal, the Saintes, and Camperdown. Camperdown is treated as one of the period's hardest-fought and most strategically important actions. Belliqueux also helped establish British control of the Dutch Cape Colony, captured the French frigate Concorde, and escorted East Indiamen so effectively that their captains presented George Byng with valuable silver plate. Her later presence in the Bay of Bengal and conversion to a prison ship show the geographical and functional range expected of a durable Royal Navy third rate.
