The Bellerophons were effectively a second batch of Dreadnought with incremental improvements. Eighteen water-tube boilers, two turbines, and a 21-knot speed kept their machinery performance close to the first ship. Their range, displacement, and armor profile were also broadly similar. The changes drew on early experience operating Dreadnought while retaining her design logic. The class shows how the Royal Navy moved quickly from experiment to production improvement.
