Edward I's wars in Scotland drew money and experienced builders away from Beaumaris. Master James of St George returned when fear of a Scottish invasion again threatened North Wales, but he died in 1309. His senior associate Nicholas de Derneford continued work for another two decades without raising the fortress to its planned height. By then roughly £15,000 had been spent, yet a 1343 survey still requested at least another £700. Even that estimate was probably too low, showing how strategic priorities left an ambitious defensive system permanently incomplete.

Scottish wars leave Beaumaris unfinished
Edward I's Scottish wars diverted money and expert builders from Beaumaris, and later campaigns never supplied enough resources to complete Master James's design.
