Castle, palace, and deterrent symbol

A warship comparison frames Beaumaris as a fortification, palace, and visible deterrent whose political display mattered alongside military strength.

Notes

Beaumaris complicates any rigid division between palace and fortress. Like a warship, a royal castle could fight, but it also projected capability, supported allies, hosted diplomacy, and displayed wealth. A king's visits, halls, retinue, commanders, and soldiers turned the residence into a visible measure of royal resources. The warship comparison extends the same logic to disaster relief, diplomatic visits, and demonstrations of firepower that encourage rivals to negotiate. Visible force matters because it may deter a conflict before weapons are used.
