How an early victory could recast Beatty's career

An early success in a mission suited to Beatty could change his reputation and still leave the Royal Navy deciding where his aggressive style is most useful.

Notes

A major victory could lead historians to judge Beatty more favourably as a commander of a ship or small force, even if his limitations in larger formations remained. Medals, public acclaim, and political connections would give him further protection as his career advanced. A prestigious Mediterranean appointment after an inconclusive Jutland could move him away from the Grand Fleet while Jellicoe became First Sea Lord. New officers could then take over both the fleet and its battlecruisers. If the Ottomans entered the war later, Beatty could become the obvious choice for a renewed Dardanelles command, reinforced by his earlier service in Egypt and regional operations. The outcome would depend partly on what had happened to Ottoman defences in the meantime: they might deteriorate or improve through investment. An assault against stronger defences could still fail badly enough to damage his enhanced reputation.
