Chapter ยท 1:25:32-1:29:43

Coalition battles require command above the ship captain

Mixed fleets cannot expect one captain to fight a ship, coordinate allies, and direct the wider battle without a separate commander and staff.

Notes

The battle at P3Y-229 combines Tau'ri, Asgard, Jaffa, Tok'ra, and Lucian Alliance forces but lacks a convincing theater command structure. A captain cannot simultaneously fight one damaged ship, maintain communications with several allies, and direct the whole battle effectively. The comparison with Second World War destroyer flotillas shows that senior leaders needed stronger executive officers and additional staff even at a much lower level of fleet warfare. A larger BC-304 force would need a hierarchy of pairs, divisions, and an overall commander rather than eight captains improvising as equals. That structure also supplies succession when ships or leaders are lost. Coalition firepower becomes useful only when command-and-control capacity scales with it.
