Main-battery fire on destroyers creates an ammunition trade-off

The simulated British battleships destroy the German screen with 15-inch fire, but the ammunition display turns that success into a warning about spending capital-ship shells on small targets.

Notes

In the simulation, the British battle line uses 15-inch fire against German destroyers and rapidly strips away the enemy screen. Removing that screen protects the British capital ships and leaves their surviving destroyers free to threaten the German battleships with torpedoes. The target choice is still questionable because those main-battery rounds may be needed against the German capital ships. By about 45:36, one shell type is exhausted and the other is also running low, making the cost of the earlier success visible. Destroying torpedo threats protects the battle line, but spending too many main-battery shells on small targets can leave capital ships short of ammunition for their primary opponents.
