From battlecruiser to fast battleship

Tiger, the Lions, and later battlecruisers illustrate how speed, armor coverage, subdivision, and hull strength separate a cruiser-killer from a true fast battleship.

Notes

Capital-ship design sits on a spectrum with no clean divide between two labels. The episode's working distinction places a fast battleship near 28 knots so it can remain with the cruiser line, while progressively faster battlecruisers accept less protection coverage. Increasing subdivision improves damage resistance and gives the hull more structure from which to support broader armour coverage, but it also adds weight and complicates machinery arrangements. A genuine fast battleship combines high speed with battleship-grade protection and construction across the hull.
