After a ten-month modernization, Enterprise joined Operation Stonewall in December 1943. At the Battle of the Bay of Biscay, she and the Town-class cruiser Glasgow faced a German force of five destroyers and six torpedo boats. The two British light cruisers sank Z27, T25, and T26 while disrupting escorts for incoming blockade runners. Those ships were trying to bring tungsten and rubber from Japan, so the tactical success also struck at materials essential to Germany's wartime industry.
