Battle and Weapon classes carried the large-destroyer idea forward

Freed from treaty constraints, later British destroyers developed Henderson's large fleet-destroyer concept with enclosed mounts and heavier secondary armament.

Notes

The Battle and Weapon classes grew from design work associated with Henderson and were intended as the Royal Navy's later-war fighting destroyers. Henderson died in 1940, so the wartime programme carried forward ideas he did not live to see realised. Their hull form and paired forward guns retained visible links to the Tribals, while enclosed mountings gave crews more protection and the ships carried a denser weapon fit. Wartime timing limited how many reached service soon enough to influence the conflict, but the lineage shows the Tribal idea surviving beyond its original treaty setting.
