HMAS Castlemaine's boiler room introduces the Bathurst class as Australia's counterpart to the Flower-class corvette. Australian designers developed the ships, and local yards and engineering firms supplied their hulls and machinery. Selected weapons and specialist components came from elsewhere in the Empire. The class served with the Royal Australian Navy and Royal Indian Navy, with some ships paid for by the British Admiralty.
