Banckert, formerly HMS Quilliam, gave the Dutch experience with a later British emergency destroyer, although she entered Dutch ownership after the war. She proved acceptable, but the Dutch preferred other destroyer types when they had a choice. A serious collision with the carrier Indomitable kept Quilliam under repair for much of the remaining conflict. Even before the purchase, British planners considered allocating the repaired ship to a Dutch crew if an invasion of Japan required every available hull. Liberation of the Netherlands restored access to sailors and other personnel who could expand the navy. The proposed transfer therefore depended on the availability of both a repaired ship and a larger recruiting pool.
