The Baltic Fleet voyage: logistical feat, strategic failure

Sending a Baltic force around the world to East Asia demonstrated remarkable logistics, but did not solve the strategic imbalance it faced.

Notes

Moving the Baltic Fleet toward the East China Sea was an extraordinary logistical achievement for a power with few overseas support points. The comparison with the American Great White Fleet stresses Russia's weaker access to global trade and English-speaking commercial networks. The same operation committed a worn force to fight a prepared Japanese navy after a vast transit. Raw ship or gun totals could not compensate for readiness, distance, or an opponent prepared to use those numbers against Russia.
