Even an expert designer could misidentify a landing ship

Mr Baker wrote from direct experience in the Admiralty's wartime landing-ship work, yet the paper appears to misidentify one of the vessels.

Notes

A published photograph has a questionable ship identification even though its source should have been unusually authoritative. The paper's author, Mr Baker, served in the Admiralty's Department of Naval Construction and worked as Stanley Goodall's deputy. He was heavily involved in landing craft and landing ship design and construction during the Second World War, and later took charge of that work. The caption is therefore a useful warning that even accounts written by expert participants can misidentify their subject.
