Bacon challenges Churchill's account of Jutland

The fifth-edition preface identifies Churchill and Filson Young as targets of Bacon's continuing dispute over how Jutland was represented.

Notes

Bacon's volume includes an author's note from 1925 and another for the fifth edition in 1933. The later note challenges the influence of Churchill's The World Crisis on public understanding of Jutland. Bacon accuses it of giving general readers erroneous ideas about the battle. He presents the revised edition as a rebuttal to Churchill as well as to Filson Young, making the disagreement between historical accounts explicit.
