HMS Bachaquero displaced 4,193 tons and began combat service in Operation Ironclad during the Battle of Madagascar. At Sword Beach, an 88 mm shell caused slight damage and few casualties, so she remained operational. After the war she was converted back into an oil tanker. The same merchant hull served in two major amphibious theaters before returning to the oil trade for which it had been built.
