Why the B-29 belonged in the Pacific

A question about B-29 employment explains why the aircraft was more valuable against Japan than in Europe.

Question

Was the B-29 intended only for the Pacific, or might it have served in Europe?

Short answer

It might have appeared in Europe if the war continued, but the Pacific had the greater need for its range while European bomber forces were already adequate.

Notes

A longer war might eventually have brought B-29s to Europe. Their exceptional range was more urgently needed across the distances of the Pacific, however. European air forces already had B-17s, B-24s, and Lancasters capable of reaching the required targets. Sending the new bomber west would add less operational value than using it against Japan.
