Auxiliaries determine whether fleets can operate globally

Fast tankers, depot ships, repair capacity, and overseas infrastructure turn collections of warships into deployable fleets.

Notes

The counterfactual preserves prewar fast-tanker programs that were historically diverted into amphibious conversions. Forward aviation-support ships following HMS Unicorn could multiply as carrier fleets grow and need heavy maintenance away from home dockyards. More submarine, destroyer, and torpedo depot ships would keep specialized flotillas operational, while expanded bases supply the repair and storage capacity behind them. These auxiliaries receive less attention than capital ships, yet they determine how much of a paper fleet can actually deploy. Logistics connects a large building program with credible global operations.
