Chapter · 45:46-52:16

Authority, rescue volunteers, and the missing heavy response team

Hammond combines formal authority with voluntary commitment to a rescue, while the need to combine several SG units exposes a force-structure weakness.

Notes

Hammond obeys his own orders but avoids casually compelling personnel into an extraordinary rescue, asking willing members to step forward. The episode shows a commander who can be hard-nosed while still recognizing the human and moral character of a mission. Calling together SG units 3, 5, 6, and 11 also returns to the force-design critique: a standing heavy reaction element would be more coherent than assembling four small teams after a crisis begins. The resulting sixteen-person force has weight, but it must be assembled from four commands instead of training and operating as one standing reaction team.
