What Austro-Hungarian submarines achieved

A fleet-level tally and U-14's individual results show how a small submarine arm imposed losses disproportionate to its size.

Notes

The Austro-Hungarian submarine force is credited with 117 ships and roughly 220,000 tons sunk during the war. Those results gave a small arm influence far beyond its numbers in a theater crowded with transports, patrol craft, and capital ships. U-14 under Georg von Trapp accounted for more than 24,000 tons by August 1917. Nearly half of that individual total came from the large steamer Milazzo, a reminder that ship counts and tonnage can tell different stories.
