AUKUS destroyer case starts with systems

A proposed AUKUS destroyer partnership would share costly systems and weapons while leaving room for national hull designs.

Notes

An AUKUS destroyer proposal raises the question of how one program could serve Australia, Britain, and the United States. NF-90 and Horizon provide examples for the criticism that multinational warship programs try to force different naval requirements into one ship. Hull steel costs less than the radars, missiles, weapons, computers, and other systems installed inside it. The proposed alternative is to develop those expensive systems as modules that each navy can assemble to suit its needs.
