The Attero Device makes Wraith hyperdrive travel dangerous. Its effects also create serious hazards for Stargate travel. Stopping enemy movement is attractive in the fictional war, but friendly users still depend on the gate network. Those side effects threaten infrastructure the weapon's owner needs. The further criticism is that the Ancients overlooked usable technologies from their own past.
