Attentive returns to flotilla leadership after repair

After collision repairs, Attentive resumed destroyer-flotilla leadership and received a nine-gun four-inch battery before the First World War.

Notes

Repairs at Chatham returned Attentive to the work for which scout cruisers had been created. She led the Third Destroyer Flotilla in 1909 and joined the Second in 1910. A 1911-12 refit replaced her earlier battery with nine 4-inch guns, four on each broadside and one on deck. After the annual manoeuvres with the Third Light Cruiser Squadron, she went to the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla at Portsmouth and then the Sixth at Dover. Her assignments and rearmament show the Navy adapting a specialised pre-dreadnought design before wartime service broadened its duties.
