An early bomb still needs an aircraft and delivery program

Moving the Trinity test and two weapons into 1944 does not automatically move the Silverplate aircraft modifications, bomb casings, and operational procedures with them.

Question

What happens if Trinity succeeds in early 1944 and the United States has material for Little Boy and Fat Man?

Short answer

Delivery remains the bottleneck, so use likely waits for modified aircraft and tested bomb hardware and might occur against Germany in late 1944 or early 1945.

Notes

Possessing fissile material did not provide the ability to deliver a complete weapon. Silverplate B-29 modifications and bomb-casing tests were still necessary, and crews had to manage assembly and arming safely in flight. A Lancaster might carry the narrower Little Boy only after changes similar to those made for Grand Slam, while Fat Man created a wider bay problem. Depending on how much of the supporting program also advances, operational use could slip into late 1944 or early 1945 and make Germany another possible target.
