The 1950s ASROC system matched the approximately 10,000-yard reliable range credited to the 5 kHz SQS-23 sonar. Its unguided ballistic rocket could carry a homing torpedo or a nuclear depth bomb. In theory, the sonar would locate a submarine accurately enough for the torpedo to acquire it after arriving at the position calculated at launch. There was no provision to adjust that aim point during the rocket's flight. ASROC was widely installed on US Navy and some foreign ships through the 1980s.

ASROC turns sonar range into a firing solution
Early ASROC paired SQS-23 sonar range with a rocket-delivered torpedo or nuclear depth bomb, but offered no in-flight correction.
