Chapter ยท 2:18:24-2:23:40

Protecting artillery with terrain, infantry, and a mobile reserve

Walls and rising ground help infantry screen the guns while cavalry and a swing unit remain available to answer a flank attack.

Notes

In the simulated battle, artillery is placed so the guns can fire over infantry while walls and rising ground protect the position. Separate infantry units cover the approaches instead of leaving the battery as an exposed front line. Cavalry and a movable infantry unit remain ready to reinforce whichever flank is threatened. Rangers in the woods would provide earlier warning, adding observation and reserves to the layered defence.
