Armour buys survival time, not invulnerability

Repeated 16-inch hits show that armour can delay destruction but cannot make even a much heavier battleship invulnerable.

Notes

Armour buys defensive time rather than offensive power. It can absorb or mitigate some hits, giving a ship a window in which to fight, manoeuvre, or escape. Repeated heavy-calibre impacts still accumulate structural damage, so greater displacement and protection do not guarantee survival. The simulated Bismarck's decline illustrates that limited point while remaining a game example rather than a controlled historical test.
