Arm launchers trade magazine depth for handling risk

Chicago's low trainable launchers lead into a comparison of deep magazines, rough-sea handling, and the faster firing cycle of vertical launch systems.

Notes

The exposed launcher position makes missile handling in rough weather the central design problem. Trainable arm launchers have an advantage because their below-deck magazines can hold substantial reloads, while a vertical launch system offers a faster firing cycle. Mounting height also matters. If an arm launcher is retained, it should not sit so low that green water and storms complicate operations.
