Ariadne during the Venezuelan blockade

Ariadne's flagship work and central place in the 1902-03 Venezuelan blockade show the class performing a serious coercive mission abroad.

Notes

Ariadne became flagship of the North America and West Indies Station and toured Newfoundland, Quebec, Bermuda, and Trinidad. Those visits connected Halifax-based command with the dispersed ports for which the station was responsible. She then served as a key British vessel in the multinational blockade during the Venezuelan crisis of 1902-03. That deployment directly counters the idea that the Admiralty regarded the Diadems as incapable ships. It places a first-class protected cruiser inside the practical machinery of imperial presence, regional command, and coercive naval diplomacy.
