A Type IXC and a Type VIIC reached Argentina long after Germany's surrender, with surrender dates given as 10 July and 17 August 1945. Internment procedures affected the timing, but the boats had also spent a long time at sea. U-530 was later sunk by the Americans in 1947, while U-977 was sunk in 1946. These boats illustrate the American use of captured submarines to test submarine-against-submarine weapons.
