Geography made Axis alignment strategically untenable

German supply promises could not offset Argentina's exposure to neighboring states and overwhelming Allied power in the hemisphere.

Notes

Formal alignment with Nazi Germany offered Argentina no practical strategic benefit. Germany could neither guarantee the delivery of supplies nor match the Allied forces that could reach the region, a problem compared here with the promises behind the Zimmermann Telegram. Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, and other neighbors also had disputes they might try to settle with British and American backing. United States air, land, and naval forces, together with the Royal Navy and possibly the Royal Air Force, would make the struggle overwhelmingly unequal. Geography, logistics, and the regional balance of power constrained Argentina's choice alongside ideology.
