Phone photography turns archive visits into efficient research sessions

A fixed phone camera, live image checks, and later PDF assembly let historians capture far more primary material during limited archive time.

Notes

An ordinary phone with a capable camera can turn an archive visit into a high-volume collection session without specialist imaging equipment. Clamping both the document and phone allows each page to be photographed with a repeatable position-and-click motion. A wireless display on a nearby computer helps catch a blurred or incomplete image while the original document is still available. Full photographs are safer than relying only on optical character recognition because OCR can lose pencilled marginalia and unfamiliar historical terms. The pages can then be kept as separate images and stitched into PDFs for detailed study at home, shifting scarce archive time toward collection rather than transcription.
