A long epic dated to 1570 retells the Great Siege in the manner of the Iliad. A short translated passage invokes knights, officers, assaults, wounds, destruction, and the Ottoman fleet sent against Malta. Alex Clarke has been unable to locate a complete English translation, limiting how much of the work he can quote. Within five years of the battle, the Great Siege had become a subject of heroic literature.
