A European treaty confirms the loss of Ceylon

The Treaty of Amiens confirmed British possession of Ceylon through negotiations in which the Dutch had little effective voice.

Notes

The battlefield collapse carried into the diplomatic settlement. Britain and France dominated the Treaty of Amiens negotiations, leaving the Dutch with little control over the disposition of their own colonies. Ceylon remained British rather than returning to the Netherlands. The loss removed an infrastructure and industrial hub for Dutch operations in the Far East. Military weakness overseas had become a permanent imperial transfer through great-power diplomacy in Europe.
