Amazon was another exceptionally fast Thornycroft-built Tribal and served at times as Admiral Hood's flagship. A postwar account by a junior officer aboard Dreadnought recalls Amazon overtaking a group traveling near 30 knots, circling the battleship to signal, and remaining ahead. The story is technically plausible given Thornycroft's proven performance, but it rests on one retrospective witness. The anecdote therefore falls short of the evidence needed to state it as fact in a book.

HMS Amazon's speed story as a lesson in source criticism
An uncorroborated account of Amazon circling Dreadnought at speed shows how plausible naval stories still require careful qualification.
