Alpha Legion counterplots and the loss of strategic purpose

Competing readings of the Alpha Legion examine how elaborate plans and assumed enemy countermeasures can obscure a strategic objective.

Notes

One criticism of the Alpha Legion is that its elaborate plots no longer seem connected to a clear strategic aim. A defence treats its tendency to plot against itself as an interesting fictional failure, especially when it appears outside the main Abaddon storyline. The objection remains that such behaviour repeatedly defeats the faction's own purposes. A later analogy compares it to an intelligence organisation assuming every opponent can match its capabilities and countermeasures. That assumption produces further preparations until the original objective becomes hard to identify. The participants disagree over whether this makes compelling fiction or merely implausible planning.
